Idle control valves are also called automatic throttle controls. These valves, found at PartsGeek.com, keep the engine idling at a certain speed, measured in rpms, preventing engine stalling. It feature a 1.5 inch in diameter motor, acting as a butterfly, opening and closing the throttle. This motor also controls the idle by preventing air from getting through. It works with the engine control computer by sending the needed information so the computer can work with the idle control case, a part of the idle control valve.

By picking up all the air in the throttle through a hole in the idle control case it prevents engine malfunction from carbon buildup created by excess air. This results in costly repairs. The valve controls a shaft that opens and closes the idle control, keeping the air in place. The main purpose is to prevent air from causing engine damage, a key function.
