Porsche 912 Replacement Hood Strut Information
The hood struts used to regulate the travel of the engine hood on your Porsche 912 are also responsible for keeping the hood in the fully opened position whenever someone is accessing the rear engine compartment. These miniature hydraulic cylinders are pressurized and, as long as the rubber seals remain intact, the pressure should remain and the struts should have no problem doing their job. Once the seals begin to age, however, it's not uncommon for the hood struts to lose their gripping ability to the point where they are no longer reliable in holding the weight of the hood lid.
