Volvo S60 Replacement Head Gasket Information
The head gasket on the Volvo S60 is located between the cylinder head that contains the valve train and the engine block. One purpose of the Volvo S60 head gasket is to keep the engine coolant from getting into the combustion chamber. This keeps the gases from traveling into the oil sump. Some of the problems that can arise from a bad head gasket could be that it could suck air, blow air, or suck coolant into the combustion chamber, creating steam. Also, a bad Volvo S60 head gasket can leak coolant into the oil sump and into the engine. Oil can leak through a head gasket into the coolant system, causing the engine to overheat due to oil contaminating the coolant. If you donât replace the head gasket, the engine could critically overheat, terminally damaging the engine and resulting in expensive major repairs, possibly even necessitating a complete engine rebuild. If the coolant is going into the oil itself, water could cause the bearings to run dry. If a high volume of water is going into the engine pan where the sump pump is, the oil pump could pull up water instead of oil and cause the parts to burn up because they are not being lubricated properly.
