The 850i BMW fuel pressure regulator works as a diaphragm to counter the pressure created by fuel injectors during the violent engine combustion process. With no room for error, the 850i BMW fuel pressure regulator makes it possible for fuel injectors to open and shut as needed to provide fuel for combustion. The engine will stall if it doesn't get enough fuel. Too much fuel and the engine will be flooded. The fuel pressure regulator diaphragm operates courtesy of fuel lines running to and from the fuel tank. Engine acceleration creates an engine vacuum. The vacuum recovers as the regulator increases fuel flow so that the engine doesn't stall. The fuel pressure regulator is designed to last the life of the vehicle. However, if it fails, drivers see black smoke and oil coming out of the tail pipe and must replace the part immediately in order to drive.
