BMW 328is Replacement Expansion Tank Information
When the temperature in your BMW 328i's engine rises so that radiator coolant is heated to more than 200 degrees Fahrenheit, the residual coolant flows into the coolant expansion tank. The heat produces pressure, and this pressure causes the coolant volume to expand. As the coolant loses heat, it flows back into the radiator. Expansion tanks can crack over time, so that coolant leaks out of your BMW 328i. Unchecked, this can lead to engine overheating. Most automobile manufacturers recommend keeping the coolant expansion tank filled to one-third of capacity. If the radiator cap is not securely fastened, you may develop air bubbles in the expansion tank reservoir. This will result in a lower volume of actual coolant available to your vehicle, and may interfere with the proper functioning of your thermostat.
