Mercury Grand Marquis Replacement EGR Valve Information
The Mercury Grand Marquis, virtual twin to the Ford Crown Victoria, was Mercury's flagship model for years, going as far back as the middle nineteen seventies. Like all modern day passenger vehicles made to conform to current emission control standards, the Grand Marquis was fitted with an EGR valve (exhaust gas recirculation), which is designed to lower nitrogen oxide (NOx) levels in the exhaust by returning small amounts of exhaust during each combustion cycle. This process also acts to improve gas mileage, since the introduction of inert exhaust into the cylinders allows less room for the normal air/fuel mixture to be injected in. A malfunctioning EGR valve will cause your Mercury Grand Marquis to run hot, burn more fuel and produce increased harmful emissions.
