Mitsubishi Eclipse Replacement Distributor Information
The Mitsubishi Eclipse distributor performs the important task of transmitting high voltage current generated by the ignition coil to the spark plugs. There are as many spark plugs as there are cylinders in the vehicle. The plug provides the spark that ignites the compressed mixture of air and fuel. Electricity from the battery is drawn into the coil and its 12 V voltage is raised to more than 20,000 volts. The Mitsubishi Eclipse distributor receives current from the coil and distributes it to the spark plugs. The distributor contains a rotary arm that comes very close to the points connected to the spark plug wires. The current jumps from the arm to the points and finally reaches the spark plug. Any moving object will suffer from wear and tear over time. Even the slightest tilt in the rotary arm will be enough to throw ignition timing awry. The rotor moves at a very high speed and works at a very high temperature. This is why the distributor and the cap are often replaced during the ignition tune up. One cannot afford to cut costs when buying such important electrical components. One cannot afford to ignore quality either. It is a misconception that high costs equal high quality.
