At the first indication Toyota Tacoma CV boots have suffered damage they should definitely be replaced. This is so important because a damaged CV boot can allow the inner lubricant to begin leaking out and, even more serious, can permit dirt, grit and water to enter the boot, leading to damage of the unprotected CV joint. The CV (constant velocity) joint is part of the wheel shaft assembly found on front-wheel and four-wheel drive vehicles. The inner CV joint is responsible for altering ride height by controlling suspension movement. The outer joint makes sure the transfer of torque is produced evenly. If one or more Toyota Tacoma CV boots becomes cracked or torn this can result in road debris being able to enter and will cause problems with the proper functioning of the CV joint. Once this occurs, a great deal more money will need to be spent replacing the joint when an easy fix would have been to just replace the boots. Regular inspection of your Toyota Tacoma CV boots is a good idea, especially if the rig is used off-road or on rough terrain. A clicking sound that becomes obvious when the wheels are spinning or a sudden shudder when rapidly changing speed can be an indication of CV boot problems and they should be inspected.
