Honda Passport Replacement Crankshaft Pulley Information
Your Honda Passport crankshaft pulley is the large circular device bolted onto the end of the crankshaft, around which you will find a series of belts. The crankshaft pulley is responsible for translating the up and down movement of your car's pistons into the rotational movement required to run several of your car's systems. The crank pulley is mechanical in nature and, along with the belts fitted to it, is required to power such items as your alternator, air conditioning compressor and water pump. The Honda Passport crankshaft pulley, also referred to as a harmonic balancer, contains something called a harmonic dampener. This consists of a thick, hard rubber pad sandwiched in between two metal plates. The purpose of the dampener is to smooth out the vibration produced by the turning crankshaft. If the dampener in the pulley begins to degrade or the pulley becomes otherwise damaged it will require replacement, as the engine will cause a noticeable vibration that can negatively affect systems driven by the pulley.
