Pontiac Fiero Replacement Clutch Information
Your Pontiac Fiero's clutch is the device responsible for transferring power generated from the flywheel to the transmission where it's changed into the rotational power that turns your car's wheels. Clutches vary in design according to whether your car has a manual or automatic transmission. A manual clutch consists of a flywheel, a pressure plate, springs, levers and linkage, as well as a clutch plate. The clutch in a car that uses automatic transmission relies upon a torque converter. A manual clutch leverages the friction between the clutch plate and the wheels. Friction is hard on equipment, so eventually the clutch disc will wear out and need replacement. Signs of a malfunctioning clutch include an inability to shift completely between gears. You may also notice very little pressure when you step down on the clutch pedal.
