BMW 328is Replacement Camshaft Position Sensor Information
It's an unfortunate problem, but camshaft position sensors on a BMW 328i have a history of failing. There are two camshaft position sensors on the BMW---an intake register and another one for exhaust purposes. The camshaft position sensor's main responsibility is to inform the engine's computer control that combustion is taking place squarely on top of the first cylinder. The computer uses that data to proceed with firing on time for the other cylinders, while also being alert to misfiring issues.
A failed camshaft induces the computer system to hazard a guess regarding piston firing. The car will still be able to run. However, performance and responsive acceleration will be noticeably worse. The camshaft position sensor should be one of the first parts examined if your BMW exhibits sluggishness. Replace a worn out sensor to protect your engine from itself. That's sound Parts Geek advice.
