Nissan Pathfinder Replacement Brake Shoes Information
Brake shoes are part of the drum brake system that stops the rear wheels of your Nissan Pathfinder when you step on your brake pedal. The backs of brake shoes are made from metal, while the fronts are manufactured form a heat-resistant insulation material like Kevlar. When you activate your brakes, the brake shoes push back toward the drums, applying friction to your wheels. This friction brings your vehicle to a halt. Automobile manufacturers recommend replacing brake shoes every 20,000 to 40,000 miles, since over time the insulation material will wear out. When that happens, the metal backing begins to grate against the drums, causing a high-pitched squealing noise.
