Saturn SL2 Replacement Brake Caliper Information
Brake calipers are part of your Saturn SL2's disc brake system. Your Saturn SL2 uses disc brakes on its front wheels and drum brakes on its back wheels. The brake caliper is the assembly that houses the brake pads that actually do the work of bringing your Saturn SL2 to a halt. When you push down on your brake pedal, you activate your master cylinder. Your master cylinder pushes hydraulic brake fluid through the brake lines, which activates the brake caliper, causing it to clamp down on the brake pads. Calipers can stick when they get dirty. This will make it seem as though you are driving with your brakes slightly on at all times. Calipers can also fail to engage if there's a leak in the master cylinder, and you won't be able to brake.
