Brake calipers are a component in disc brakes, the braking system your Chevy Silverado 2500 uses on its front wheels. Disc brakes have four parts. The rotor, which attaches to the wheel, is the piece of equipment that actually applies the friction that stops your vehicle. Brake calipers fit over the rotor like a pair of clamps and a piston. Inside each caliper sit a set of brake shoes. When you apply your Chevy Silverado 2500's brakes, you push fluid from the master cylinder through the brake lines and up against the calipers. The fluid forces the pistons to push the brake shoes up against the rotor. This action stops your vehicle.
