Mercedes 300TE Replacement Alternator Information
Your alternator is part of your Mercedes 300TE's charging system. It's functionally a small generator that draws current from your battery and amplifies this power in order to run the headlights, battery, windshield wipers and other electrical components of your car. It's powered by the same serpentine engine belt that also operates your air conditioning system and power steering. It's mounted near the front of your engine. Your alternator contains a rotor that generates an electromagnetic field. This field amplifies the current it gets from your battery. When your alternator is beginning to fail, you'll notice that the electrical equipment in your Mercedes isn't operating normally. Your headlights will seem dimmer, and your windshield wipers will seem slower. Your radio may not turn on at all. The "Check Battery" light will flash on in your instrument panel.
