Lincoln Continental Replacement Alternator Information
Your Lincoln Continental's alternator is a mechanical device that converts the rotational movement of your crankshaft into electrical energy. It receives its energy from the serpentine belt powered by your crankshaft. The serpentine belt also drives your air conditioning system and your power steering system. The serpentine belt connects to a pulley within your alternator, moving magnets across a special conducting surface. This produces the electromagnetic energy known as electricity. The direction of the pulley changes periodically, producing an alternating current. This alternating current is what gives rise to the name of this piece of equipment. The alternator powers all the accessories in your car that rely upon electrical power for their operation. When your alternator is malfunctioning, your headlights and taillights will appear dim, and your radio may not turn on.
