Ford Excursion Replacement Alternator Information
The alternator is a member of the charging system of your car that generates electricity for different parts. The alternator functions by changing mechanical energy to electrical power. Even though the battery gives some energy, most of the electrical devices in your Ford Excursion rely on the alternator's electric power. These alternators produce a steady supply of energy. To transform the alternating electric current into direct current, diodes are put into use.
This direct current now moves to the battery and other electrical components. Even when the alternator malfunctions, the battery may keep your car energized before all the power is spent. When an alternator is putting out less than the desirable voltage, the car's battery will often run dry, requiring jumps to start the engine. Eventually the battery will become so low that the spark plugs cannot fire and the engine will stop altogether.
