Mercedes 450SL Replacement Air Pump Information
The 450SL Mercedes air pump that helps the vehicle comply with the latest emissions standards. While not essential to vehicle operation, the 450SL Mercedes air pump is essential to keeping vehicle emissions to a minimum when the vehicle starts. As vehicles begin operations, the engine is at its least efficient producing a large amount of polluting byproducts like nitrous oxide. The vehicle needs a way to clear out the pollutants quickly and easily.
An effective tool in treating initial emissions, the 450SL Mercedes air pump operates during the first 30 seconds after engine ignition, then shuts off. It emits a low humming sound analogous to a vacuum cleaner. Should the part howl instead, it has malfunctioned. The Mercedes 450SL is a roadster produced from 1973 to 1980, but must meet modern emissions standards. That means the air pump must be replaced should it fail to meet modern environmental protection standards.
