The air mass sensor on your Lexus GS400 is a delicate electronic device used to measure the density (or mass) of the air going into the air intake system and for sending that information to the car's engine control computer. The computer needs to know air density because this will affect the way it formulates the air/fuel mixture sent to the engine for combustion. As air mass changes, due to temperature and pressure fluctuations, the amount of fuel used to reach the ideal 14.7 to 1 air/fuel ratio must also be altered by the computer.
