Ford F250 Super Duty Replacement Air Mass Sensor Information
Your Ford F250 Heavy Duty pickup has dozens of different sensors tied into the engine control computer to regulate various systems and performance functions. One critical sensor related to your truck's fuel economy and performance is the air mass sensor. Sometimes called the MAF, or mass air flow sensor, this device informs the engine computer of the current density of the air being used in the air/fuel mixture being sent into the cylinders for combustion. Since air mass (or density) changes on a regular basis, being directly affected by temperature and pressure, the computer needs its information continually updated in order to maintain the ideal air/fuel ratio for complete combustion. A bad air mass sensor makes this impossible and this part must be replaced as soon as it's discovered it no longer works properly.
