BMW 323i Replacement Air Mass Meter Boot Information
A BMW 323i air mass meter boot is the protective covering for the car's air mass meter, part of the vehicle's fuel injection system. The boot protects the air mass meter from damage and also from being subjected to dirt and grit. The air mass meter is responsible for determining the mass of the air being supplied to the fuel injectors. Air mass is subject to changes in temperature and elevation. The air mass meter senses these changes and sends the information to the car's ECU, a computer that regulates the air/fuel mixture delivered to the injectors. A faulty air mass meter causes erroneous information to be sent to the vehicle's computer, resulting in an improper fuel mixture being supplied to the engine cylinders. This will hinder engine performance by providing a mixture that is either too rich or too lean. The BMW 323i air mass meter boot, which encapsulates the meter itself, is located between the car's air filter and the fuel injectors. If the boot becomes damaged, cracked or torn, it will allow unfiltered air to become sucked into the metering device, which will eventually contaminate the meter and render it inoperable or inconsistent. At this point, a new, replacement boot should be fitted to ensure optimum performance.
