Mercury Capri Replacement Air Mass Meter Information
The Mercury Capri has a unique history, produced as three distinct vehicles in three separate decades by Ford Motor Company, first in Germany, then in the U.S. as a rebadged Mustang, and finally in Australia as a two-door convertible.
Later models incorporate use of an air mass meter (or sensor), a part in communication with the engine control computer. The function of the air mass meter is to pass along information regarding the mass or density of the air being used in formulating the precise air/fuel mixture being sent to the cylinders as part of the combustion process. The computer needs to know as air mass changes, since this will determine how much fuel is added to create the ideal air/fuel ratio.
