Volkswagen Beetle Replacement AC Receiver Drier Information
The AC receiver drier is part of your Volkswagen Beetle's air conditioning system. It functions as a filter for the refrigerant, removing contaminants before the refrigerant is recirculated back into air conditioning system, after it has cooled the carriage of the car. PartsGeek.com sells AC receiver driers for VW Beetles and other makes of automobiles.
First the air-conditioning system's compressor pressurizes the refrigerant and sends it into the condenser. The condenser has many coils in order to maximize surface area, so the heat can be removed from the pressurized refrigerant and expelled. When the refrigerant cools sufficiently, some it changes from a gas back into a liquid. This gas/liquid mix then passes into evaporator and cools the car. The liquid portion then goes through the AC receiver drier and back into the compressor. Liquid refrigerant goes through many such cycles as you turn your AC on and off.
