Volvo V70 Replacement AC Evaporator Information
The labor for replacing a Volvo V70 AC Evaporator is costly because it consists of removing the console, trim, harnesses, radio, climate control, steering wheel, leg protection, dash board, heater core box, and the fan housing/evaporator core. A mechanically-inclined novice could do the job with time and patience. The individual should be knowledgeable about how to safely handle components such as the airbag, horn assembly and refrigerant. This individual also needs to be equipped with the correct tools, such as an inexpensive air conditioning fuel line disconnection set. An air conditioner operates with chemicals that change gas to liquid and liquid to gas, and which move heat from the interior of the vehicle to the exterior. The components of the air conditioning system include a compressor, condenser, and evaporator. The evaporator removes hot air and also dehumidifies the air. Using the force of a fan, the evaporator circulates hot air, which is then removed through vents. The air is sent through ducts, where this hot air cools the gas in the evaporator. Moisture condenses on the fins of the evaporator coil due to the hot air traveling through. The moisture then drains outside the vehicle, a normal byproduct of the system. Refrigerant boils inside the evaporator and absorbs heat, also expelling it outside the vehicle.
