BMW 535i Replacement AC Condenser Information
The AC condenser on your BMW 535i is a heat exchanger. It works in conjunction with the evaporator, whose job it is to absorb heat, providing a means of venting that heat to the atmosphere. It's like your car's radiator in this respect, which vents heat it's absorbed from the engine. The AC condenser also resembles your car's radiator, only thinner. Made up of many small tubes and fins, it's also located at the front of the engine compartment where it can have access to cooling air.
An externally blocked condenser, which can be caused by insects, leaves, dirt, etc., can usually be cleaned and brought back into proper operation. An internally blocked condenser, usually the victim of a compressor failure, cannot be repaired and must be replaced.
