I bought this because it was the only intake I could find with a CARB cert for my '12 Xterra. It took about an hour and a half to install. Throttle response is improved nicely. Engine sounds normal at idle or just cruising down the highway, but go to pass and the engine roar is quite loud. I get surprised looks from drivers daily, including one from a cop...oops.
That being said, the instructions are a joke, the heat shield takes a little work to fit under the hood just right and there are some extra bolts holding down the old box that are not mentioned at all.
The heat shield is open at the bottom to the point that if you plan on driving through small puddles at parking lot speeds you will need to buy the optional waterproof filter cover or risk hydrolock.
AFE says to expect 1-2 extra mpg but I haven't noticed a difference at all.
I am happy overall, but might go with a K&N once they offer some CARB cert's.
