This left/right hood strut made by Stabilus is specially designed to fit Ford Explorers made between 1995 and 2001. The hood strut holds the hood in place when it is opened. Replacing this part quickly becomes a necessity when working under the hood on the engine. Without a hood strut, the hood slams back down into place. Other means of propping up the hood such as boards or tools are not recommended because these options are unstable and unsafe. The few minutes it takes to install a new hood strut will be worth the effort.

The hood stays up instead of banging me in the head. Very easy
to install, after I did the first one in about ten to fifteen minutes, it took less than five minutes to do the second one. I no longer keep a hood support on the back seat floor to hold hood open.
I was working on my step-son's 1999 Ford Explorer, using a paint pole as a hood holder! I was pleased to find him new hood struts for a great price at Parts Geek!
It is hard to go wrong with any Stabilus Strut product. Their strut units last a long time and are a perfect fit every time. They may be a bit more expensive than others, but well worth it for fit, durability and longevity. Great product and a good price with Parts Geek.
Struts fit perfectly in place easy to connect clips and parts work perfectly
Having to use a softball bat to hold up the hood of your car is unacceptable, got two struts at a fair price, showed my 15 year old you can save money by doing things yourself.
installed in minutes and a lesson learned that doing it your self is much better have getting a knot in the back of your head from a old hood strut that is failing.
